Ngoma Student Takes National Exams From Hospital Bed

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Adeline Niyonagize, a 20-year-old student studying Tourism at GS Mutenderi, is among the candidates sitting this year’s national examinations under extraordinary circumstances.

Due to a leg injury sustained in an accident, she is taking her exams from her hospital bed at Kibungo Referral Hospital.

This year’s national exams for Ordinary Level and Advanced Level students officially kicked off on Wednesday, July 9, at various sites across the country. In Ngoma District, the exams were launched at IPRC Ngoma, a technical and vocational training institute, which serves as the district’s central examination site.

A total of 6,941 candidates are sitting the exams from 27 designated centres in Ngoma. However, Niyonagize was the only candidate sitting her exams from a hospital.

According to Alexandre Tuyishime, the District Education Officer in Ngoma, the authorities made special arrangements to ensure she was not left behind.

“When exams were approaching, she was involved in an accident and had to be hospitalised at Gahini Hospital. It was later decided to transfer her to Kibungo Referral Hospital so that we could better support her and facilitate her exams from here,” Tuyishime explained.

He confirmed that she is writing her papers without any complications, and her completed scripts are submitted to the appropriate examination site as required.

Nationwide, the 2024/2025 national examinations for lower and upper secondary levels, including teacher training colleges (TTC) and professional education programmes, will run until July 18.

In Ngoma District, the 6,941 candidates comprise 1,340 for Ordinary Level (O Level), 4,128 for Advanced Level (A’ Level), 1,062 from teacher training colleges (TTC), and 411 from professional education streams (PE).
