Africa-Press – Rwanda. Swiss-based Rwandan tennis players Lia Kaishiki Mosimann has joined the national team in preparations for the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup Group IV tournament, which will be held in Kigali from July 14-19.
Mosimann jetted in on Wednesday, July 9, and started training with the rest of the squad on Thursday at IPRC-Kigali Ecology Tennis Club—the same venue which will host the week-long women’s world cup of tennis.
Her inclusion brings additional depth to a squad comprising Sonia Tuyishime, team captain Olive Tuyisenge and Gisele Umumararungu. The trio has been training twice a day for the past two weeks under head coach Sylvain Rutikanga.
Rwanda will host the tournament for the third consecutive year, welcoming women tennis players from 12 African countries, including Benin, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Mozambique, Senegal, Chad, Sudan, Togo, and Tanzania.
The tournament, formerly known as the Fed Cup, is the premier international team event in women’s tennis and was renamed in honor of American tennis icon Billie Jean King.
Before the tournament begins, a draw will be held to split the 12 teams into three groups of four. Each team will play three round-robin ties, with matches consisting of two singles and one doubles encounter.
Rwanda finished fifth during the 2024 edition of the tournament won by Algeria who were eventually promoted to Group III.
