Kagame Meets Qatari Leader, Expresses Solidarity

Africa-Press – Rwanda. President Paul Kagame, on Friday, September 12, met with Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, in Doha, where he conveyed brotherly solidarity on his own behalf and on behalf of Rwandans following recent attacks on the Gulf nation.

Kagame also extended his condolences for the Qatari lives lost during the strikes, carried out by the Israel Defense Forces on Tuesday, September 9, targeting senior Hamas negotiators in Doha.

The Government of Rwanda on Thursday condemned the strike, describing it as a violation of international norms and a threat to global stability.

According to the Office of the President, the leaders also discussed “the need for accountability and the pursuit of a just resolution to the ongoing regional conflict.”

Kagame further expressed appreciation for Qatar’s vital role in mediation efforts across various conflicts, including in the Great Lakes Region.

Notably, in July, Qatar mediated negotiations between the Congolese government and the AFC/M23 rebels. This led to the signing of a declaration of principles agreement.

Rwanda and Qatar have cooperation in various sectors, including defence and security, as well as aviation.
