Volleyball: APR edge Police to clinch KAVC women’s title

Africa-Press – Rwanda. APR overcame domestic rivals Police Women Volleyball Club in a thrilling tie-break clash to win the 2025 Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) tournament in the women’s category, held at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Sunday, September 14.

The win stood out as a revenge for the army side which had lost the league title to the same side in June.

Christian Hatuminana’s Police overpowered APR and took the first two sets 25-22 and 26-23, before Peter Kamasa and his charges fought back to win the third set 25-18 and the fourth 25-19 to force the game into the tiebreak which they eventually won 15-12 to complete a stunning comeback.

In the men’s category, hosts Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) defeated Equity Bank of Kenya in four sets 25-22, 22-25, 25-17, 29-26 to lift the trophy before their home crowd.

KAVC’s women also won the third place after defeating Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) 3-1 17-25, 25-9, 25-11, 25-20 while, in men’s category, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) swept Kenyan side Chema VC in straight sets 28-26, 25-12, 25-21to claim third place.

Rwanda Energy Group (REG), who won the 2024 edition, and APR VC, were eliminated in the group stage of the men’s tournament while Police VC (men) reached the quarterfinals but were knocked out in a tiebreaker by KCCA VC.
