Africa-Press – Rwanda. Former Young Africans star striker Clatous Chota Chama justified his big money move to Singida Big Stars as his brace powered the Tanzanian club to their first CECAFA Kagame Cup glory after beating Sudan’s Al Hilal 2-1 in the final at KMC Stadium on Monday, September 15.
Chama was unstoppable in the final and his performance earned him the man of the match as his side closed the campaign with celebrations before their home crowd in Dar es Salaam.
The Zambian star put Singida ahead in the 21st minute after eliminating Al Hilal defenders to send the ball at the back of the net.
Their lead, however, took only 10 minutes as the Sudanese powerhouse equalized right after the cooling break through Abdelrazig Taha.
Both teams were level on 1-1 at the break but Singida, back by the home crowd, came back pushing for the lead. Their pressing paid dividends in the 58th minutes when Chama sent KMC Stadium into a frenzy after firing in the second goal from the box.
Al Hilal dominated possession since as they looked to up Singida Big Stars but the home side held on to keep their rivals at bay until the full time whistle.
Singida Big Stars became the fourth Tanzanian club to win CECAFA Kagame Cup after Young Africans, Azam FC and Simba SC who are the tournament’s most successful club with six titles.
Meanwhile, APR FC sealed a third-place finish after beating KMC 1-0 through Memel Dao.
The Rwandan champions were a round short of last edition’s outcome where they reached the final before losing to Zambia’s Red Arrows on penalties.
