Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda’s winless streak at the 2025 Men’s U20 African Nations Volleyball Championship continued as they lost unbeaten Cameroon on Monday, September 15, at Hassan Mostafa Hall in Cairo, Egypt.
This was the second defeat for Dominique Ntawangundi’s youth team at the tournament which also serves as the qualifier for the 2026 FIVB U21 Men’s Volleyball World Championship.
Cameroon, who opened their campaign with a dominant victory over Kenya, once again displayed strength against Rwanda, defeating the side led by captain Tristan Kayiranga in straight sets 25-17, 25-22, 31-29.
Cameroon beat Rwanda in straight sets on Monday, extending their losing streak to two matches at the U20 African Nations Championship
The Central Africans took control early. Their strong serves were crucial to claim the first set 25-17. Rwanda showed some flashes of brilliance in the second set but still fell short at 25-22.
The third set turned into a fierce battle, with Rwanda again pushing Cameroon to the limits. Unfortunately, Cameroon prevailed as they narrowly stole the set 31-29 to seal the match.
“I saw a lack of confidence from these boys, which comes from their limited exposure to international matches. But going forward, this is a learning process, and we’re hoping to correct our mistakes,” claimed Ntawangundi after the loss.
Rwanda will return to action on Wednesday, September 17, against Kenya in what will be their last chance to contest for a ticket to the next round of the tournament.
