Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rayon Sports Women’s Football Club has written a new chapter in Rwandan football history after reaching the final of the CECAFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

This marks the first time a Rwandan women’s team has reached the final stage of the prestigious regional competition.

The campaign began on September 4, and saw the Rwanda champions deliver exceptional performances that impressed football pundits and club supporters across the country alike.

Although the team narrowly fell short in the final against Tanzania’s JKT Queens who won the encounter 1-0 to qualify for the CAF Champions League, Rayon Sports WFC’s remarkable journey to the last stage stands as a milestone achievement for women’s football in Rwanda.

This historic success was made possible thanks to the unwavering support of club main sponsor Skol Brewery Ltd.

Skol has been instrumental not only in accompanying the team in Kenya during this CECAFA journey but also in playing a key role in the creation and development of the Rayon Sports Women’s team.

“Even though the trophy did not come home this time, every Rwandan is proud of what these young women have accomplished. They have proven that with hard work, dedication, and the right support, Rwandan women can shine on a bigger stage,” said Emmanuel Laumonier, the Commercial Director of Skol Brewery Ltd.

Skol also broadcasted the final game at Skol Stadium in Nzove where fans were invited to watch and cheer for their team—a clear sign that the brand is not only the sponsor but also a passionate supporter of the Rayon Sports Women’s team.

Rayon Sports Women’s historic run serves as an inspiration for the growth of women football in Rwanda, and their success has ignited pride across the nation.

New Rwanda FA president Fabrice Shema also rewarded the team Rwf 5,000,000 as a token of appreciation of their performance in Kenya.
