Africa-Press – Rwanda. Dutch rider Michiel Mouris added a world title to his European crown after clinching gold in the junior men’s time trial at the 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Kigali.
He completed the 22.6km course at the Kigali Convention Centre (KCC) in a winning time of 29:07.61, earning the coveted rainbow jersey. The 18-year-old’s victory capped a stellar day for the Netherlands, following Megan Arens’ win in the junior women’s time trial earlier in the day.
Mouris staged a strong comeback after sitting third at the first checkpoint, powering through to set the fastest time at the second split and ultimately crossing the line nine seconds ahead of early leader Seff van Kerckhove of Belgium, who had posted 29:16.19.

However, Van Kerckhove didn’t hold onto silver, as Ashlin Barry (USA)—starting 90 seconds after Mouris—delivered a fast ride to take second place with a time of 29:14.45, pushing Van Kerckhove into bronze.
Beckam Drake (USA) narrowly missed the podium with a 29:21.16 finish for fourth place, while Max Hinds (Great Britain) completed the top five in 29:26.52.
For the host nation Rwanda, it was a challenging outing. Pacifique Byusa and Brian Ishimwe placed 53rd and 55th respectively out of 85 competitors. Byusa trailed Mouris by 5 minutes and 27 seconds, while Ishimwe finished 5 minutes and 52 seconds behind.
Both riders will compete again on Friday in the 119.3-kilometer road race. The World Championships continue on Wednesday, September 24, with the mixed team time trial (TTT) over 41.8 kilometers, starting at 1:45 p.
