Africa-Press – Rwanda. Ethiopia has been granted permission to host their next World Cup 2026 qualifying match against Guinea-Bissau at Amahoro Stadium in October.
Ethiopia is among countries whose stadiums don’t meet international standard enough to host the World Cup qualifiers.
Among the countries granted permission by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to play outside their borders is Ethiopia, which is seeking a ticket to play in the World Cup to be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) is not concerned that Ethiopia’s match will clash with Rwanda’s match against Benin, as the dates considered do not include October 7, which Ethiopia will play.
Ethiopia is sixth in Group A, led by Egypt. They have played both of their last two matches away (on the road), losing to Egypt and Sierra Leone, both 2-0.
Ethiopia is not the first country to host its matches in Rwanda, as Zimbabwe also hosted Nigeria at Huye Stadium on the second day of Group C in November 2023.
Zimbabwe hosted Rwanda at Kigali Pelé Stadium in a qualifier for the 2024 FIFA U-20 World Cup in May, while Djibouti hosted Rwanda at Stade Amahoro in a qualifier for the 2024 CHAN.
