Rwandan Basketball Prospect Cyuzuzo Heads to US

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwandan youngster Rebecca Cyuzuzo left for the United States on Monday night, September 29, where she landed a fully sponsored scholarship to study at Ben Ford Christian School.

Cyuzuzo, 18, made a strong performance with Rwanda U18 during the 2024 U-18 Africa Basketball Championship in Pretoria, South Africa.

She also had a good season in the women’s national basketball league where she scored 183 points, 170 rebounds, 26 assists, 11 Block and 230 Efficiency, she leading The Hoops Rwanda to a fourth-place finish. She was also named Most Improved Player in regular season 2025,

On senior international basketball duty, Cyuzuzo was part of the Rwandan roster that outgoing coach Cheikh Sarr took to Côte d’Ivoire for the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket.

Ferwaba technical director Moise Mutokambali explained that Cyuzuzo’s scholarship is an opportunity for her to study and advance her basketball skills in the US.

“It is proof that we have talent in Rwanda. What needs to be done is to give more youth such opportunities to enhance their careers,” Mutokambali said.
