Africa-Press – Rwanda. It’s just one week to go before the long-awaited Rwanda National Volleyball League kicks off, as players get back to business after a four-month offseason during which several clubs underwent massive squad overhaul.
Though it’s still too soon to tell how the season will unfold, volleyball pundits list former giants Gisagara VC among potential title contenders next season after a very active transfer business.
Time Sport takes a look at the top transfers that happened during the offseason and are expected to make an impact on the 2025/26 volleyball season which officially kicks off on October 17.
Sylvestre Ndayisaba and Ronald Muvara (Gisagara VC)
Star setter Ndayisaba and middle blocker Muvara both returned to Gisagara VC after signing two-year contracts from Rwanda Energy Group (REG).
The duo left Gisagara VC in 2023 for REG, a club they defeated in the playoff finals at the time to clinch the title.
Muvara, who was named best blocker at the 2025 Genocide Memorial Tournament (GMT), also contributed to the national team’s sixth-place finish at the 2023 Volleyball African Nations Championship held in Kigali.
On the other hand, Ndayisaba stands out as one of the most experienced setters the league has ever seen on the court and this could be crucial to Gisagara’s title bid in the coming volleyball league campaign.
Omary Bure Hassan (EAUR)
The Tanzanian star has turned his focus to Rwanda’s volleyball league, and he will be eager to prove his worth following his move East African University (EAUR) where he signed a two-year contract.
Hassan previously played for top-tier side Rukinzo VC, where he was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the Burundian league in both 2023 and 2024.
He is expected to drive EAUR’s ambitions to reach the top four, after the club finished sixth in the regular season in the 2024.25 season.
Merci Gisubizo and Crispin Ntanteteri (REG VC)
Left attacker Merci Gisubizo and setter Crispin Ntanteteri joined Rwanda Energy Group (REG) VC on two-year contracts, as the club looks to reclaim the championship they last lifted in the 2022/23 season.
Ntanteteri, known for his exceptional ball positioning and setting precision, joined REG from runners-up Police VC while Gisubizo followed him at the club, closing a five-year spell at APR VC to an end.
During his time at APR VC, Gisubizo helped the club win several trophies, including the 2024 and 2025 league titles. Internationally, he captained the U21 national volleyball team at the 2022 Africa U21 Nations Volleyball Championship.
Yves Mutabazi (Gisagara VC)
Powerful left attacker Yves Mutabazi joined Gisagara VC on a one-year contract after parting ways with Kepler VC for whom he had featured for since 2024.
Mutabazi missed the entire second phase of the 2024/25 season due to illness and he is now looking to transform himself into the best version of self.
Known for his formidable power serves, he is best remembered for his standout performance at the 2021 African Championships held in Kigali, where he helped Rwanda finish sixth among 12 participating nations.
Gloire Niyonkuru and Gedeon Angiro (to Police VC)
Left attacker Angiro and former Gisagara VC captain Gloire Niyonkuru joined Police VC in mid-September. The duo will be part of the squad that will participate at the Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) International Tournament.
Angiro left REG VC, where he played a key role in helping the club win the 2025 GMT and was named best server of the competition.
