Over 120 young riders set for Youth Race Cup on Sunday

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Over 120 riders aged between 11 and 18 will compete in the ninth edition of the 2025 Youth Race Cup, scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 26, at the Field of Dreams in Bugesera District.

The one-day race will feature five categories: Pupilles (Under 11), Benjamins (Under 13), Minimes (Under 15), Cadets (Under 17), and Juniors (Under 19).

Recently, Field of Dreams, the venue for this edition, was officially inaugurated as a multi-level youth cycling center, the first of its kind in Africa featuring both a race track and a pump track.

The inauguration ceremony took place during the period when Kigali hosted the 2025 UCI Road World Championships.

According to Liliane Kayirebwa, Vice President of the Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY), the facility will contribute greatly to ensuring safe training for young riders.

“As a UCI-recognised youth cycling center, it also opens Rwanda to the world,” she said during an interview with Times Sport.

“International riders will come here to train and share their expertise, which will help our young cyclists gain valuable skills and insights into professional cycling.”

The 8th Youth Race Cup was previously won by Emmanuel Shema from Les Amis Sportif and Akelyne Nyiribambe from Bugesera Cycling Club in the boys’ and girls’ U17 categories respectively.

Felicien Dusengimana (Sina Cycling Club) took the first place in the U15 boys’ category, while Liza Johovaire (Ndabaga Women Cycling Team) topped the U15 girls’ event.

In the U13 category, Elbetete Ndayishimira from Bugesera Cycling Team and Alice Umutoni claimed victory in the boys’ and girls’ races respectively.
