FIFA extends Bimenyimana’s suspension to three matches

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Burundi striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana has seen his suspension extended to three matches following his horror challenge on Kenya goalkeeper Brian Bwire during last month’s World Cup qualifier in Bujumbura.

The former Rayon Sports and Kaizer Chiefs striker was shown a straight red card after attempting to meet a cross from the right, only for his boot to make contact with the face of Harambee Stars’ Bwire.

The shot stopper was stretchered off in pain and needed a couple of weeks before he returned to action after a five-inch cut above his eye.

The world football governing body (FIFA) had suspended Bimenyimana for one match which saw him miss Burundi’s final qualifier against Gabon, but he will miss a further two matches after FIFA extended his suspension to three matches.

This means that he will miss Burundi’s upcoming international friendly against Zambia on November 18.

He was further slapped with a fine of Swiss Francs 5,000 (Rwf9,070,167.66 m) over the incident.

Bimenyimana made his Burundi debut in 2017 and has so far earned 24 caps, scoring seven goals.
