Africa-Press – Rwanda. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given Sudanese giants Al-Merreikh, Al-Hilal the green light to compete in the Rwanda Premier League.
The development was confirmed by Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa) on Wednesday, November 19.
The federation had opened doors for the both clubs to join the 16-team league but CAF was yet to give it a go ahead.
The green light comes at a time the league is in its seventh match day of the campaign.
The Sudanese powerhouses requested to join Rwanda Premier League following the suspension of football activities in Sudan due to the ongoing civil war.
The Sudan Premier League has been halted since April 2023, prompting the clubs to seek temporary relocation.
Rwanda Premier League will now revise fixtures to accommodate the clubs.
Last year, Sudanese rivals Al Hilal and Al Merreikh — who have between them won 49 of the previous 53 league titles featured in Mauritanian Premier League, in Northwest Africa.
