Africa-Press – Rwanda. Musanze FC defeated APR FC 3-0 in the 8th match day of the Rwanda Premier League at Ubworoherane Stadium on Saturday, November 22 to hand the Rwandan champions the first defeat of the season.
Three first half goals from Charles Mutsinzi, Hussein ‘Tshabalala’ Shabani and Omar Bizimungu Omar Bizimungu were enough for Emmanuel Ruremesha’s side to secure all three points.
The game started slowly from both ends but Musanze FC, who are playing in front of their home fans, opened the scoring inside seven minutes through Chales Mutsinzi.
The visitors started to press, looking to level the scores. Winger Gilbert Mugisha fired a powerful shot but the ball was deflected into the corner and hit the woodwork.
Musanze kept on waiting for good opportunity, and in the 20th minute, they doubled the lead through Tchabalala before Bizimungu made it 3-0 in the 39th minute.
Some APR supporters were seen leaving the stadium before half time as their club was showing no signs of making a comeback.
However, the army side returned in the second half dominating possession as they looked to reduce the deficit. Their pressing paid dividends as Musanze FC Serge Murangamirwa sent the ball in his own net.
William Togui scored second goal for APR in the 87th minute to make it 3-2 but it was not enough to do the comeback.
In other matches, forward Lague Byiringiro scored the winner from the spot as Police FC came from behind to beat Gicumbi FC 2-1 at Kigali Pele Stadium to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches.
Amagaju FC held Etincelles FC to a 1-1 draw while Bugesera FC edged Rutsiro FC 3-2 in another thrilling match at Bugesera Stadium.
Marine FC beat Gorilla FC 1-0 at Umuganda Stadium while Gasogi United defeated SC Kiyovu 1-0 at Amahoro Stadium on Friday. The win moved the club up to second place with 15 points.
