Africa-Press – Rwanda. Former sports journalist Bonnie Mugabe will effective December 1 assume office as new Secretary General of the Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA).
His appointment was announced by the federation in a communiqué released on Saturday, November 22.
“Bonnie Mugabe has been appointed as the Secretary General of FERWAFA effective December 1, 2025. Mugabe has experience and expertise in football administration and management,” reads the statement.
Mugabe, who previously worked as a sports journalist at The New Times, returns to the federation where he previously held various roles including head of competitions, media officer, and spokesperson until he joined the world football governing body (FIFA) as Venue Planning, Delivery and Security Operations Officer.
Mugabe’s new position has been vacant since FERWAFA elected new executive committee, led by FA president Fabrice Shema, in August.
Richard Mugisha, the Federation’s first Vice-President in charge of Technical Affairs, has been working in the Secretary General office on an interim basis.
Mugabe studied Football Governance and Management at the University of Leicester in England, which is offered in partnership with the CIES Institute and FIFA.
