Africa-Press – Rwanda. The AFC/M23 rebel movement reported that on Tuesday, December 2, coalition forces led by the Congolese government launched “deadly attacks” against civilians and all of its frontlines in South Kivu province.

According to the rebels, the attacks are concentrated along key axes, including Katogota-Luvungi, Kaziba-Haut Plateau, Tchivanga-Hombo, and Kasika-Mwenga.

The coalition forces include the Burundian army, the Rwandan genocidal militia FDLR, Burundi’s Imbonerakure militia, and mercenaries.

Corneille Nangaa, the political coordinator of AFC/M23, stated that the “deadly attacks”, which violate ceasefire agreements, will force the rebel group to respond.

“Faced with this violation of the ceasefire as part of the Doha peace process, no choice is left to the ARC (AFC/M23) but to defend itself and protect civilian populations,” Nangaa wrote in a post on X on Tuesday.

“The situation is catastrophic and is deteriorating by the minute,” said Lawrence Kanyuka, the movement’s spokesperson. “The coalition forces of the Kinshasa regime launched widespread attacks against densely populated areas as well as across all front lines.”

The movement had previously condemned similar attacks on November 30, noting that strikes by Sukhoi-25 combat aircraft and drones were orchestrated from Burundi.

“This country serves as a rear base and command center for the coalition forces of the Kinshasa regime,” Kanyuka said on Sunday.

“Burundi also deploys its troops and Imbonerakure militiamen in South Kivu, where they are integrated into the FARDC, the FDLR and the Maï-Maï Wazalendo.”
