Africa-Press – Rwanda. Former Amavubi goalkeeper Yves Kimenyi has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 33, nearly two years after suffering a serious leg injury.
Kimenyi has been out of action since April 2023, when he sustained a severe injury during a league match between AS Kigali and Musanze FC.
Over the course of his career, Kimenyi played for several top clubs, including APR FC, Rayon Sports, SC Kiyovu and AS Kigali.
In a lengthy message posted on social media, Kimenyi said the injury ultimately forced him to step away from the game, while reflecting on the highlights of his journey, saying among other things that he is proud to have worn the national team jersey.
Kimenyi began his football journey at Imena Academy before moving to FERWAFA’s Isonga Academy. He later featured for Isonga FC and went on to play at various levels of the national team setup.
