Amstel Hosts Social Ride in Rubavu Before Stage Five

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Tour du Rwanda 2026 gold sponsor Amstel on Thursday hosted a vibrant social ride in Rubavu town before riders take on Stage Five in the afternoon.

The social ride attracted local cyclists, visiting fans, and retired cycling legends who gathered to celebrate cycling and immerse themselves in the Tour atmosphere.

Before the ride began, Rubavu District Mayor Prosper Mulindwa welcomed participants and highlighted the district’s excitement in hosting the race.

“Since yesterday (Wednesday), we have enjoyed spectacular moments from professional riders as they finished Stage Four. Now it is also our time to enjoy the beauty of our district through cycling,” Mulindwa said.

The social ride started and finished in front of Rubavu Market—the same venue hosting Stage Five circuit. Participants completed two circuits covering approximately 15 kilometres along the scenic lakeside roads.

Unlike the professional race, the event focused on participation and interaction rather than competition. Riders also took part in quiz activities, answering Tour du Rwanda-related questions such as the stage distance.

Winners were rewarded with bicycles provided by Amstel, supporting the promotion of cycling and wellbeing. Among them was 42-year-old Jean Baptiste Mbarushimana who expressed his joy after receiving a bicycle.

“In our culture, owning a bicycle has always been important. Winning this gift from Amstel strengthens my connection to cycling and motivates me to continue riding,” Mbarushimana told Times Sport.

Amstel Premium Portfolio Manager Amos Muhunde emphasised the sponsor’s commitment to enhancing fans’ experience beyond the race itself.

“Cycling enthusiasts deserve more, and we are committed to supporting them not only through entertainment after the stages but also by giving them opportunities to actively participate and enjoy cycling,” Muhunde said.

Before the final stage of Tour du Rwanda in Kigali, Amstel will host another 15km social ride, giving residents of the Rwandan capital city another opportunity to engage with the race.

Meanwhile, Stage Five will feature an 82-kilometre circuit race in Rubavu, marking the first time the Western Province hosts a circuit stage in this year’s edition.
