Africa-Press – Rwanda. Foreign Affairs Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe on Monday, March 16, delivered a special message from President Paul Kagame to President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh of Djibouti.
The two leaders also discussed the candidacy of Rwanda’s Louise Mushikiwabo for a third term as Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said on Monday.
“We discussed the candidacy and the reforms that Louise Mushikiwabo has already initiated to make the organisation more effective, dynamic, credible, relevant and respected globally, and to continue along the path of institutional continuity,” Nduhungirehe told Radio Télévision Djibouti.
On the same day, the Minister of Sports, Nelly Mukazayire, was received by President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani of Mauritania. They also discussed Mushikiwabo’s candidacy.
The OIF brings together states and governments with a shared affiliation to the French language.
First elected in 2018, Mushikiwabo, a former foreign minister, was re-elected for a four-year term in November 2022.
Rwanda recently confirmed Mushikiwabo’s candidacy for a third term in January.
If re-elected, she would become the second OIF Secretary-General to serve three terms, after former Senegalese president Abdou Diouf.
Elections are scheduled for November at the Francophonie Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
