Africa-Press – Rwanda. Bobosi Byaruhanga scored an early goal as the Uganda Premier League Champions Vipers beat Rayon Sports 1-0 onMonday evening in a friendly game during which the club unveiled their new squad that will be used next season.

The match was part of the ‘Rayon Sports Day’ celebration, an annual team presentation ceremony which normally takes place before the new football season kicks off.

This year’s club celebration ceremony attracted a host of guests including top government officials and former administrators who led the club on different occasions before club president Jean Fidele Uwayezu took over the office.

Sports Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Didier Shema Maboko and Football governing body’s Secretary General Henry Muhire Brulart as well as former club presidents Chance Denys Gacinya, Paul Muvunyi, Abdallah Murenzi and Sadate Munyakazi were among noticeable attendees at the colourful ceremony.

The feisty event started with music from local artists Bruce Melodie, Afrique, Eric Senderi and Platini whose music welcomed club supporters at Kigali Stadium early in the afternoon before Uwayezu presided over the team presentation which included new faces.

The club presented a 26-man squad that coach Francis Haringingo will use ahead of the new season which kicks off Friday, August 19.

Defender Abdul Rwatubaye was named club’s new captain just a week after signing for the club he played for four years ago.

Other remarkable new signings that were unveiled before thousands of fans who filled Kigali Stadium include Malian striker Boubakar Traore, Kenyan forward Paul Were, Burundian midfielder Eric Mbirizi and Nigerian Rafael Osalue among others.

Some of the players played Rayon’s friendly match against a Vipers side currently coached by Robertinho, who previously coached the Blues and inspired them to the CAF CC quarter finals back four years ago.

Under the Brazilian tactician, the Uganda champions won last season’s league title without losing a single match.
