Africa-Press – Rwanda. The upcoming Africa Zone Five Club Championship set to be held in Rwanda will start on October 21.
Fionah Ishimwe, the Executive Director of the Rwanda Basketball Federation, told Times Sport that the showpiece to be held at BK Arena and Lycee de Kigali gymnasium will end on October 28.
The competition will bring together six women’s basketball clubs from different countries in the FIBA Zone V including Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya, South Sudan, and hosts Rwanda.
The tournament acts as a qualifier for the 2023 FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women which will take place in Egypt, from December 8 to 17, bringing together 10 women’s basketball clubs from all over the continent.
Rwanda expects to be represented at the tournament by APR and REG, the teams that finished first and second, respectively, in the 2023 season.
In 2022, APR women’s basketball team represented Rwanda at the continental showpiece, finishing eighth out of 10 clubs.
