RPF 'grateful for overwhelming support', says committed to national unity, devt after election victory

Africa-Press – Rwanda. The RPF-Inkotanyi says it is committed to national unity and development and “grateful” to Rwanda after its flagbearer Paul Kagame got more than 99 per cent of votes in the 2024 presidential elections.

The party and its allies also secured more than 62 per cent of the votes in the parliamentary elections, which, according to partial results announced by the National Electoral Commission (NEC), could earn it about 33 seats out of 53 seats elected by direct suffrage in the Chamber of Deputies.

“The RPF is grateful for the overwhelming support shown by Rwandans in the elections,” the party said in a statement on Wednesday, July 17.

“It is yet another testament of the trust and confidence placed in our leadership and vision for Rwanda. We remain committed to working for national unity, sustainable development, and prosperity for all Rwandans.

“While waiting for the final results to be announced, we thank all Rwandans and all friends of Rwanda for their support.”

Kagame is poised for a landslide victory after claiming victory over his challengers Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda and independent Philippe Mpayimana, who collected just 0.53 per cent and 0.32 per cent, respectively, in the partial results released later on the Election Day.

The win hands the incumbent an extension of five years.

As vote tallying continues, the electoral commission is expected to announce provisional results by July 20 and the final outcome by July 27.
