Al Merrikh track Lwanga as APR exit beckons

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Sudanese giants Al Merrikh FC are reportedly trying to swoop for Ugandan midfielder Taddeo Lwanga whose contract with APR expires on June 30.

Al Merrikh are said to have made the former Simba SC star a key target as he gets to the end of his two years stay with APR FC.

Times Sport understands that the player wants to explore new avenues and may reject contract extension by APR.

APR currently have a pool of defensive midfielders and Lwanga’s possible exit may not be a worry though his vast experience will be missed.

The Rwanda Premier League defending champions have Seidu Dauda Yussif, Froduard Mugiraneza and Ismail Nshimirimana who are all defensive midfielders. Again, centre back Aliou Souane can also play in that position.

Lwanga, 30 joined APR on July 8, 2023 from Djibouti giants Arta Solar 7 FC. He also previously played for Simba SC as well as Vipers and SC Villa in his native country.

Despite not having enough playing time this season at APR, he has always performed anytime he had been given the nod by coach Darko Novic.

For now, a defensive midfielder may not be a priority for APR unless at least another player in that position is leaving alongside Lwanga.
