Africa-Press – Rwanda. Over 50 young African cyclists are expected to take part in the Junior Tour du Rwanda which is slated for July 24-28, organisers said.
Organised by Rwanda Cycling Federation (Ferwacy), the youth cycling competition aims at scouting young talents and prepare them into cycling stars in the future.
Ferwacy president Samson Ndayishimiye told Times Sport that this particular race is designed to give young African cyclists a chance to compete and showcase their talent.
“This race is to build strong riders for the future and we are trying to invite other countries which can give challenge to our riders in the competition. The race will bring direct results for the future of our sport,”
“Our focus on developing the young generation of riders is coming through. We hope the Rwanda Junior Tour will eventually grow into an international event, which would see even other African teams join in the Junior racing.”
The first edition of its kind which took place in 2024, attracted 47 Junior riders from 12 teams. Shadrack Ufitimana emerged winner of the race.
Ndayishimiye said that the federation is in talks with sponsors and the Ministry of Sports so that they can have enough resources to organize a very competitive race.
