Africa-Press – Rwanda. Striker Mamadou Sy scored the match winner in the 84th minute as APR defeated relegation-threatened Vision FC 2-1 at Kigali Pele Stadium on Sunday, March 30, to close the gap on league leaders Rayon Sports.
It was a game in which Vision FC gave their all but they succumbed to a late strike by Sy as APR closed in on league leaders Rayon Sports to within one points to bring the title race back on track with 8 games to end the season.
Both teams started brightly but it was APR who shot ahead in the 20th minute as Djibril Ouatarra sent goalkeeper James Bienvenue the wrong way to make it 1-0 after he was fouled by Vision FC defender Stephen Bonney inside the penalty area.
Vision FC came strongly into the game after conceding the goal. They pinned APR to their own half with their free flowing football.
Idarusi Cyubahiro restored parity for Vision FC on the stroke of half time as he soared high in the APR penalty box to nod home a fine cross from the right in the 45+1 minute to make it 1-1.
APR head coach Darko Novic brought on Arsene Tuyisenge, Denis Omedi and Ramadhan Niyibizi for Gilbert Mugisha, Seidu Dauda and Lamine Bah respectively as he pushed for the winning goal. The substitutions changed the phase of the game as the defending champions begun pressing high.
Their dominance yielded dividends in the 85th minute as Sy fired home the winner after Vision had failed to clear their lines.
The victory has moved APR to 45 points from 22 games, just one point shy of Rayon who lead the table with 46 points.
