Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwandan cycling governing body, FERWACY, has appointed Hubert Nkurayija as the new Coordinator of Tour du Rwanda.

Nkurayija takes over from Freddy Kamuzinzi who has been in the position for the past three years.

“He will now be the main point of contact for all matters related to the Tour and will oversee its overall organisation,” a statement released by Ferwacy on Monday, December 1, reads in part.

Nkurayija previously contributed to several editions of Tour of Rwanda as Accreditation Manager and Digital Consultant.

A former cyclist, he possesses extensive technical experience in the sport. He also managed Team Amani and is one of the promoters of the monthly Youth Racing Cup, a development competition that is now showcasing young Rwandan talent on the international stage.

Professionally, Nkurayija is an expert in IT and digital solutions, a major asset for supporting the integration of modern digital tools designed to enhance the experience of the teams, partners, and stakeholders of the Tour.

Established in 1988, Tour du Rwanda remains the only cycling event on the continent with UCI 2.1 status. Since 2009, it has steadily attracted sponsorship and professional teams, including World Tour development squads.

Behind the scenes, discussions are underway to have the race upgraded to UCI 2.Pro status.
