Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Members of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) have elected new leadership at the provincial and Kigali City levels. The elections, which took place on May 24, were attended by party members from districts and sectors in Kigali City and across the provinces.<\/p>\n

The elections were held for the position of party president, vice-president, and secretary-general at the provincial and Kigali City levels. In the City of Kigali, Joseph Nsabimana was re-elected as president for a five-year term.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is to promote the welfare of citizens,\u201d Nsabimana said. \u201cThe newly elected committee will work with other party structures across the country to ensure the betterment of citizens’ lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gad Twagirimana was elected as vice-president, and Jeanne d\u2019Arc Debonheur was elected as the party’s Secretary-General in Kigali City. In Eastern Province, the PSD members elected Guillaume Mushakamba as president, Angeline Urujeni as vice-president, and Pierre Clement Cyemezo as secretary-general.<\/p>\n

In Western Province, Jonas Twagiramungu was elected president, Alice Imfurayabo as vice-president, and Evode Mushobozi as secretary-general. In Southern Province, Gallican Niyongana was elected president, Illuminee Tabu as vice-president, and Eddy Karimwabo Muganza as secretary-general.<\/p>\n

In Northern Province, the committee elected Jean Hitimana as president, David Irivuzimana as vice-president, and Lys Hirwa e as secretary-general. Aisha Nyiramana, a member of PSD, said they expect the newly elected committees to implement government policies that include PSD\u2019s ideas.<\/p>\n

“I believe the party is a channel through which government programmes should pass, and we want them to implement effectively, as we work within existing government programmes,\u201d said Nyiramana.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we endorsed His Excellency President Paul Kagame [in the 2024 elections], it is because we supported government policies as outlined in his manifesto. Therefore, we expect these leaders to implement the policies in the RPF Manifesto, especially as it includes our contributions,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Pascaline Uwamahoro, the party\u2019s Deputy Secretary-General in charge of Youth Affairs, said the newly elected committee members are expected to enhance the party’s activities in line with the country\u2019s vision, particularly through the Second National Transformation Strategy (NST2).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe expect the newly elected leaders to act as our advisors, to engage with us more closely, so that the youth\u2019s involvement becomes more visible, especially in the NST2,\u201d Uwamahoro said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are also ready to play our part in contribution to the country\u2019s development.\u201d<\/p>\n
