Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Twenty-three boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 teams are set to compete in the 2025 FIBA U16 AfroBasket, scheduled in Kigali from September 2-14.<\/p>\n

Rwanda will host the continental boys\u2019 tournament for the first time while the girls\u2019 competition will be happening in the country for the second time, marking a significant milestone in the country\u2019s basketball journey.<\/p>\n

Rwanda\u2019s journey in the 2023 FIBA Africa U16 Boys’ Championship ended in the quarterfinals, where they were eliminated by Egypt. They concluded the campaign in fifth place after beating Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire 74-62 in the classification match.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the girls’ team finished seventh after defeating Guinea 54-43 in the classification match.<\/p>\n

This competition also serves as a qualifier for the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup. The champions and runners-up in each category will earn a spot in the World Cup.<\/p>\n

Full list of confirmed teams<\/p>\n

Boys: Rwanda (Host), Guinea, Egypt, Angola, Cameroon, Sierra Leone, Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire, Uganda, Tunisia, Liberia, Mali, and Morocco.<\/p>\n

Girls: Rwanda (Host), Mali, Angola, Cameroon, Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire, Guinea, Kenya, Egypt, Morocco, Tanzania, and Tunisia.<\/p>\n

Competition system<\/p>\n

Countries will against each other in the group stage, totalling three games per team.<\/p>\n

A total of 18 games will be played in the group phase.<\/p>\n

The top two in each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will qualify for the final phase. The remaining four teams will compete in the classification round for 9th to 12th place.<\/p>\n

The two best teams in each category will qualify for the 2026 FIBA U17 World Cup.<\/p>\n
