Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>In the recently unveiled land use master plan for Kamonyi District, there is a project on cable cars hovering over River Nyabarongo. One of 15 major projects poised to shape the district over the next quarter century.<\/p>\n

Covering 655 square kilometres and one of the eight districts in Southern Province, Kamonyi is projected to increase its population from 450,849 in 2022 to 784,939 in 2050.<\/p>\n

The district\u2019s current population represents 15per cent of the total population in Southern Province.<\/p>\n

By 2050, Kamonyi\u2019s urban population is expected to account for 70% of the total inhabitants.<\/p>\n

The new land use master plan will be rolled out in four phases: Phase I (2024\u20132030), Phase II (2030\u20132036), Phase III (2036\u20132042), and Phase IV (2042\u20132050).<\/p>\n

Rwf1.4bn cable car project over Nyabarongo<\/p>\n

The Kamuhanda Cable Car Project is envisioned as a new tourism product, hovering over River Nyabarongo and linking Nyabugogo Bus Park in Kigali to Kamonyi District.<\/p>\n

The project is designed to improve connectivity while offering a unique tourism experience, turning Kamonyi into a vibrant gateway between Kigali and Southern Province.<\/p>\n

The project’s implementation is projected to cost around Rwf1.4 billion<\/p>\n

2. Rwf5.2bn Nyabarongo River bridge<\/p>\n

The new Nyabarongo bridge linking Kigali and Kamonyi will complement the gateway monument.<\/p>\n

The Rwf5.2 billion bridge is intended as an iconic structure symbolising the close business ties between Kigali and Southern Province.<\/p>\n

It will also connect the pedestrian pathway to the cable car station.<\/p>\n

3. Rwf5.7bn underpass at Ruyenzi junction<\/p>\n

A proposed underpass at the Ruyenzi junction in Runda is designed to improve traffic flow.<\/p>\n

With a new industrial park under development in Muhanga District, traffic on the main highway from Kamonyi is expected to increase significantly.<\/p>\n

To manage this growth, the Rwf5.7 billion proposed underpass will ensure smooth, uninterrupted vehicle movement through busy commercial areas along the national road.<\/p>\n

4. Rwf3.1bn shopping mall<\/p>\n

A shopping mall is planned on the Magerwa plot to attract businesses and shoppers, offering a diverse range of retail, dining, and entertainment options, while fostering community engagement and inclusivity. It would cost some Rwf3.1 billion.<\/p>\n

5. Kamonyi Urban Stadium<\/p>\n

A well-designed city stadium will provide a vibrant hub for sports enthusiasts, fostering community spirit and offering a memorable experience for both athletes and spectators.<\/p>\n

6. Rwf1.3bn financial plaza<\/p>\n

A financial plaza is planned to be built in Runda Sector, in a prime area within the civic zone, a strategic and integrated space designed to meet residents\u2019 financial needs while fostering economic growth and community wellness.<\/p>\n

It is expected to enhance the business environment in Kamonyi, including providing space for financial institutions, small business services, insurance, Irembo services, and co-working spaces.<\/p>\n

7. Rwf2bn wetland restorayion in Bishenyi<\/p>\n

The proposed wetland restoration and conservation project aims to rehabilitate and preserve the ecological integrity of Bishenyi wetland, a critical natural resource in Kamonyi.<\/p>\n

8. Rwf3.2bn bus terminal and market in Bishenyi<\/p>\n

Bishenyi Integrated Development project will combine a bus terminal, market, and public plaza in a single complex. It could cost about Rwf3.2 billion.<\/p>\n

There is also a City Gateway Monument in Bishenyi will serve as a landmark welcoming residents and visitors to a vibrant urban centre, symbolising unity and progress.<\/p>\n

The monument, with an estimated cost of Rwf700m, will embody the spirit of Bishenyi, showcasing its rich culture and growth.<\/p>\n

9. Rwf3.7bn Remera-Rukoma Provincial Hospital<\/p>\n

The modern Remera-Rukoma Provincial Hospital aims to transform healthcare in the region.<\/p>\n

Estimated to cost Rwf3.7 billion, this facility will prioritise patient care, integrating advanced medical technology and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

With a focus on sustainability, it will adhere to green building standards.<\/p>\n

The hospital will serve as a comprehensive healthcare hub, offering specialised services, emergency care, and outreach programmes.<\/p>\n

It addresses immediate healthcare needs while representing a commitment to public health, research, and the well-being of Rwandan citizens.<\/p>\n

10. Rwf600m Rukoma community playground<\/p>\n

The Rukoma Modern Community Playground will create a recreational space promoting engagement and child development.<\/p>\n

It will feature modern equipment, inclusive design, and sustainable landscaping, with designated areas for different age groups.<\/p>\n

Cultural elements will also be incorporated to strengthen local identity.<\/p>\n

11. Rwf700m Remera-Rukoma bus terminal<\/p>\n

The Remera-Rukoma Bus Terminal project will be a modern, efficient hub to improve connectivity and convenience.<\/p>\n

It will include bus bays, waiting areas, ticketing service offices, and information systems, incorporating green design and accessibility for all commuters.<\/p>\n

12. Rwf700m Mugina farmers\u2019 market<\/p>\n

The modern farmers\u2019 market in Mugina will create a dynamic space for farmers to sell produce directly to consumers.<\/p>\n

It will include covered stalls, hygiene facilities, and storage, while promoting locally sourced and organic products. Educational programmes will empower both farmers and consumers.<\/p>\n

The expected Mugina Public Plaza will also integrate the proposed farmers\u2019 market, co-working space, and bus terminal into a vibrant community hub.<\/p>\n

13. Musambira African Village Craft Centre<\/p>\n

The Musambira African Village Craft Centre will be a platform for local artistic traditions, providing space for artisans to create, showcase, and sell their works.<\/p>\n

The centre will support cultural preservation, community empowerment, and economic development.<\/p>\n

14. Rwf500m heritage rocks project<\/p>\n

The Tourism Heritage Rocks project will celebrate and promote the cultural and geological heritage of Kamonyi\u2019s unique rock formations.<\/p>\n

Each rock will be engraved with accounts of significant historical events in Rwanda.<\/p>\n

A Rwf450m Heritage Ring will organise the rocks into a corridor, guiding visitors through the heritage path.<\/p>\n

15. Rwf1.6bn Rwandan Cultural IDP model village<\/p>\n

Located near the heritage rocks and path, the model village will showcase a traditional Rwandan homestead, providing both educational and tourism value.<\/p>\n\r\n
