Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>As tourism continues to grow, Rwanda is moving to update its legal framework through the ongoing review of the 2014 law regulating the industry. The tourism sector is expanding with innovative products and services that diversify experiences, attract new travellers, and deepen engagement with the country\u2019s natural and cultural assets.<\/p>\n

In this article, The New Times takes a look at some of the new products in the tourism sector:<\/p>\n

1. Hot air balloon safaris<\/b>
\nThis gives tourists an opportunity to soar above the savannah at sunrise, taking in breath-taking views of Rwanda\u2019s landscapes, especially Akagera National Park, from the sky.<\/b> The ride ends with a bush breakfast and refreshments upon landing.<\/p>\n

Jophride Nizeyimana, who runs Umurage Ecosafaris, said hot air balloon rides in Akagera have become one of Rwanda\u2019s most exciting tourism innovations, attracting travellers seeking a unique perspective.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince they added the hot air balloon, people are more interested. When you are above, it\u2019s a better view compared to being in the car. With the car, you see animals from far, and sometimes they hide, so the hot air balloon is more adventurous,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

2. Karenge Bush Camp<\/b><\/p>\n

Located in the northern region of Akagera National Park, Karenge Bush Camp offers an eco-conscious escape with just seven tents accommodating up to 16 guests.<\/p>\n

Previously, visitors needed at least two days to spot all the major animals in Akagera. But with improved wildlife populations and better infrastructure, Nizeyimana says the experience is now more efficient and rewarding.<\/p>\n

3. Walking with rhino trackers<\/b><\/p>\n

Beginning in July, tourists can join professional rhino trackers in Akagera to monitor rhinos reintroduced from South Africa. It\u2019s a rare opportunity to participate in conservation while watching the animals.<\/p>\n

He also noted the significant impact of reintroducing rhinos to Akagera. The presence of these iconic animals, alongside gorillas, is attracting more international visitors and making the park busier than ever.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving rhinos added value to our park. Now, when a client comes to Rwanda, they know they will see gorillas and rhinos. It\u2019s very adventurous. Akagera is much busier than it used to be,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The Nyungwe zipline.<\/p>\n

4. Nyungwe Zipline<\/b><\/p>\n

A new addition in the Nyungwe park, the zipline experience allows visitors to glide over Nyungwe\u2019s lush landscape, offering a panoramic view. The zipline spans 1,935 metres and offers a journey through misty mountains and lush rainforest.<\/p>\n

Gloria Mbabazi, founder of Serene Rwanda Adventure, noted a noticeable rise in clients, both local and international, being drawn specifically to Nyungwe\u2019s zipline experience. She explained that its length and scenic appeal make it more attractive.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven Rwandan clients have started visiting. As you know, they are not usually interested in traveling or adventure, but we\u2019ve seen many getting interested,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

5. Gisakura Rope Course<\/p>\n

The rope course, located near Nyungwe, is an adventure for families and groups, combining fun, fitness, and a chance to connect with nature in a controlled environment.<\/p>\n

It is a 280-metre-long aerial obstacle. Designed for all skill levels, the course includes rope bridges, swinging logs, climbing nets, and more.<\/p>\n\r\n
