Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Electricity tariffs in Rwanda are set for their first review since 2020, according to information from the Prime Minister’s office.<\/p>\n

The communication was made on Tuesday, September 15 after a cabinet meeting chaired by President Paul Kagame at Urugwiro Village on September 15.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister’s office noted that the review process is already underway, in line with the country’s targets in the energy sector.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the cabinet acknowledged that access to electricity has dramatically increased from less than 2 percent in 2000 to 85 percent in 2025, driven by continued investments in power generation and grid expansion.<\/p>\n

To achieve universal access and ensure financial sustainability in the power sector, the government said a review of the electricity tariffs is ongoing as part of broader strategic measures.<\/p>\n

Government officials have hinted that the review could introduce a new pricing model that would ease the burden on businesses and support Rwanda\u2019s ambition to become a regional manufacturing hub.<\/p>\n

The last major tariff adjustment was announced in 2020, when Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) increased rates for residential consumers and industries, while slashing tariffs for health facilities and data centers to promote affordable health services and the ICT sector.<\/p>\n

Details of the new tariff structure, as well as its implementation timeline, are expected to be unveiled in the near future by RURA.<\/p>\n
