Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>RwandAir passengers will soon enjoy a taste of Rwanda\u2019s film and television industry in the skies, starting in November.<\/p>\n

The national carrier will feature a selection of ZACU TV\u2019s popular series and films on its inflight entertainment system, offering travellers the experience of home-grown content.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made on Friday, October 3 during ZACU TV\u2019s annual press briefing, which also marked the channel’s third anniversary.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the media, the organisers said the new collaboration with RwandAir is expected to drive their growth even further by introducing Rwandan stories to thousands of passengers who fly with the airline every month.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first thing the platform will provide is exposure. We fly approximately 10,000 passengers across the globe every week,\u201d said Fiona Mbabazi, Communication Manager at RwandAir.<\/p>\n

\u201cSecondly, it\u2019s the debut of local content. We will be telling our stories to an international audience, and foreigners will be able to watch them on the dedicated channel of their own choice. This stronger collaboration will also empower our artists to be recognised worldwide,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Unveiled under the theme \u201cZACU TV Travels with RwandAir \u2013 Sky is Not a Limit,\u201d the partnership is described as a first-of-its-kind for Rwanda\u2019s entertainment industry.<\/p>\n

Zacu TV, launched in 2022 by CANAL as a 100 per cent Kinyarwanda channel, has quickly become a favourite in Rwanda.<\/p>\n

It offers a rich mix of local movies, TV series, and selected international shows.<\/p>\n

ZACU TV, available on Channel 3 of CANAL , has continued to grow, with the popular series Hurts Harder whose episodes dominated the entire Top 10 list in August and eventually standing out as this year\u2019s biggest success.<\/p>\n

In August 2025, the number of households watching ZACU TV programs on replay via the CANAL app increased by 173 per cent compared to the same period in 2024, almost three times more.<\/p>\n

Management credits the success to quality programming and originality. The strong demand for local content has further boosted its popularity among audiences.<\/p>\n

The platform is more than a television channel but a space where Rwandan stories come to life, where local talents are celebrated, and where viewers can see themselves reflected in stories that capture their way of life, their emotions and aspirations.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the partnership, Wilson Misago, the CEO of Zacu Entertainment, said that collaborating with the national carrier, which has many wings, adds significant value to Zacu TV\u2019s content.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople will become more aware of content made in Rwanda by Rwandans. Even if the films are in Kinyarwanda, they will include English or French subtitles. Who knows, we may even attract experienced directors who might be interested in collaborating with us. This is very beneficial for us filmmakers in general, and this partnership will help us promote our content,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ce\u0301dric Pierre-Louis, Director of Programming for African Fiction Channels at CANAL , noted that by the end of this year, as preparations begin for the new one, viewers will be able to enjoy more content, including the continuation of popular films that dominated in previous years.<\/p>\n

They will sing along with RED FLAG, one of our new series, and be fully absorbed by the drama in THE LAST CONFESSION and RIGO, our new Colombian telenovela,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Pierre-Louis added that 2026 looks very exciting for ZACU TV, with diverse new projects ranging from brand-new shows to innovative partnerships and optimized offers.<\/p>\n

According to him, local creation remains at the heart of ZACU TV\u2019s vision. Several films shot in 2025 will enrich the catalogue, while 2026 will mark the debut of a new wave of series including RED FLAG, THE LAST CONFESSION, SEBURIKOKO, and KARIRA, an epic drama created by Yuhi Amuli.<\/p>\n

Karira will be produced in the partnership with ROK Studios, Nigeria’s most prolific production company, founded and run by Mary Remmy Njoku.<\/p>\n

He also revealed that in 2026, ZACU TV will expand internationally by introducing Africa\u2019s first airing of the Colombian telenovela RIGO, alongside a new slate of Universal movies dubbed in Kinyarwanda.<\/p>\n

The launch of Agasobanuye , will be an upgraded and refreshing take on the beloved localization style. Viewers who enjoy this genre, he noted, can look forward to newer movies, better voice talents, and a more engaging, entertaining experience.<\/p>\n

Sophie Tchatchoua, Managing Director of CANAL Rwanda and Burundi, praised ZACU TV for being a key driver of subscriptions, noting that many CANAL customers renew their subscriptions specifically to access ZACU TV. She encouraged audiences to continue using the CANAL Application, which offers ZACU TV films, series, and other CANAL exclusive content.<\/p>\n
