Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Rains in Kigali got the majority of Tuesday\u2019s Rwanda Open M25 first round matches at RP-Kicukiro Ecology Tennis Club either suspended or postponed as the weather conditions turned out unfriendly for players to play nor for umpires to officiate.<\/p>\n

The downpour saw four gentlemen\u2019s singles matches, including Rwanda\u2019s David Manzi Rwamucyo\u2019s first-round tie against Germany\u2019s Maximilian Homberg, twice interrupted before the umpires decided to suspend them. Six doubles matches were also halted before they even started.<\/p>\n

Rwamucyo, left the Center court down 4-5. He will now have time to fix where he did badly before the game resumes on Wednesday at 9:00am, same court, the same kickoff for all other suspended matches.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the day, Rwanda\u2019s top seed Claude Ishimwe and countryman Emmanuel Manishimwe suffered straight-set defeats, both losing 6\u20130, 6\u20130 to Germany\u2019s Marlon Vankan and Morocco\u2019s Yassine Dilmi, respectively.<\/p>\n

The results ended hopes of a home win in the singles main draw, leaving E\u0301tienne Niyigena and Rwamucyo as Rwanda\u2019s remaining players in contention.<\/p>\n

Niyigena is scheduled to face France\u2019s third seed or two-time Rwanda Open M25 winner Corentin Denolly on Centre Court on Wednesday, after Rwamucyo\u2019s rescheduled match at center court.<\/p>\n

In doubles round of 16, Niyigena and Ishimwe will pair up later against Frenchman Amaury Raynel and Romania\u2019s Ioan Alexandru Teglas, while Gift Ivan Ngarambe teams up with Uganda\u2019s David Oringa to face India\u2019s Aditya Balsekar and Malaysia\u2019s Darrshan Suresh in their round of 16 tie.<\/p>\n

Tournament organisers confirmed that the schedule has been adjusted to accommodate the postponed matches following Tuesday\u2019s washout.<\/p>\n

In another twist, two top contenders \u2014 Damien Wenger, the 2023 Rwanda Open champion, and Karan Singh, last year\u2019s semifinalist \u2014 have withdrawn from this year\u2019s Kigali M25 event.<\/p>\n

The 2025 Rwanda Open, which is part of the ITF Men\u2019s World Tennis Tour, carries a total prize purse of $30,000, marking a 20 percent increase from last year\u2019s $25,000. Kigali will host two consecutive M25 tournaments, running from October 6\u201312 and October 13\u201316, attracting more than 30 international players, including ten ranked inside the world\u2019s top 1,000.<\/p>\n

Emmanuel Manishimwe also exited the M25 tournament after a 6-0 6-0 loss at the hands of Moroccan Yassine Dlimi-courtesy<\/p>\n

Hopes are now on David Manzi Rwamucyo whose match was suspesded due to rain when he was trailing Hombereg 4-5 in the first set-courtesy<\/p>\n
