Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Major General Emmy Ruvusha has completed his one-year tour of duty as Joint Task Force Commander of the Rwanda Security Forces (RSF) deployed in Mozambique\u2019s Cabo Delgado Province. He officially handed over command to Major General Vincent Gatama on October 10.<\/p>\n

Rwanda first deployed its forces to Mozambique\u2019s Cabo Delgado Province in 2022 at the request of the Mozambican government to help combat terrorism and restore stability.<\/p>\n

Working alongside Mozambican troops, Rwandan forces have since dislodged ISIS-linked insurgents from key strongholds including Moci\u0301mboa da Praia, Awasse, Palma, Quionga, Chinda, Mbau, Mpalanganha, Tete, Njama, Quelimane, and Siri.<\/p>\n

The handover ceremony, held at the RSF Headquarters in Moci\u0301mboa da Praia, brought together both commanders and their staff to mark the transition of leadership.<\/p>\n

According to a statement from Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) issued on October 11, the two commanders commended the outgoing contingent for their dedication and achievements during their deployment.<\/p>\n

Under Maj Gen Ruvusha\u2019s command, Rwandan forces made important progress in counter-terrorism operations, liberating several areas previously controlled by insurgents and enabling thousands of displaced civilians to safely return home.<\/p>\n

The contingent also trained the first intake of Mozambique\u2019s Armed Defence Forces (FADM) in an advanced infantry course, strengthened cooperation with local security institutions, and built strong relations with communities in liberated areas.<\/p>\n

Maj Gen Ruvusha had assumed command on September 7, 2024, succeeding Maj Gen Alex Kagame.<\/p>\n
