Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>A total of 113 new lawyers joined the Rwanda Bar Association (RBA) on Saturday, November 22, after a swearing in ceremony at the High Court in Kigali. They were encouraged to strive for professionalism, explore international opportunities, and champion Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as a tool for enhancing justice delivery.<\/p>\n

Addressing the new advocates, RBA president Moise Nkundabarashi emphasized the association\u2019s strong commitment to promoting ADR as an effective, modern method of resolving disputes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to remind you that you are joining the Bar at a time when we are doing everything possible to promote ADR,\u201d he said. \u201cThis method is not here to take away our work in the courts, as some people claim. Rather, it helps to build speedy justice and promote peace in our society. It also offers greater opportunities for lawyers to strengthen their skills.\u201d<\/p>\n

A total of 113 new lawyers joined the Rwanda Bar Association (RBA) after being sworn in at the High Court in Kigali on Saturday, November 22.<\/p>\n

He urged the new entrants to adopt a broader perspective of the legal profession by looking beyond Rwanda\u2019s borders for opportunities.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou should think and work outside Rwanda because there is a wider market out there. This requires continuous training and capacity-building. To be a competent lawyer, knowing the law alone is not enough. You need additional skills such as technology and AI literacy, financial management, investment knowledge, psychology, and more.\u201d<\/p>\n

New lawyers are encouraged to be professional, seek international opportunities, and promote Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to improve access to justice.<\/p>\n

Nkundabarashi reminded the new lawyers of the importance of professional conduct, discipline, and preserving the reputation of the legal profession.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou must strive for the good image of our profession. Respect yourselves and avoid anything that goes against the dignity of our work, whether it is how you dress, public conduct, or avoiding corruption and other shameful behaviours,\u201d he said, adding \u201cThis will help you build a long career and avoid appearing before the disciplinary commission.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then highlighted the legal framework governing the Rwanda Bar Association, referring to Law No 83\/2013 of 11\/09\/2013, its responsibilities outlined in Article 4, and the Rules of Procedure established in 2014. He described these documents as essential for every lawyer.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this profession, these three documents are like the Bible for Christians,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you wish to thrive and uphold justice for those who need it, you must master and adhere to them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nkundabarashi concluded by reminding the new members that the oath they took is not a mere formality.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe words in this oath are enough to guide you toward becoming good lawyers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\r\n
