Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Clubs are allowed to register up to six foreign players on their 20-player rosters, but only three may be on the court at any given time.<\/p>\n

The decision was made by the Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA) general assembly held in Kigali December 6.<\/p>\n

The third on-court foreign player slot\u2014previously reserved for a foreigner with at least three seasons of experience in the league\u2014will now be exclusive to players who hold the nationality of an African country.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, East Africa University Rwanda (EAUR) and Inspired Generation were officially promoted to the first division, while Espoir Basketball Club will play in Division 2 in the 2026 season after finishing bottom of the league in the 2025.<\/p>\n

Nine clubs are confirmed to participate in Rwanda Basketball League in 2026 include champions APR, Patriots, REG, Tigers, UGB, Kepler, AZOMCO, EAUR and Inspired Generations.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Orion Basketball Club is barred from playing in the league due to failure to pay its players and coaches.<\/p>\n

The general assembly also confirmed that the new season of Rwanda Basketball League, in both the men’s and women’s categories, will commence on January 24.<\/p>\n

It will be preceded by the Super Cup scheduled for January 23.<\/p>\n

The National Heroes Tournament will start on February 1. Division 2 men\u2019s clubs will be allowed to participate as part of federation\u2019s efforts to boost visibility and talent identification.<\/p>\n

The Genocide Memorial Tournament is tentatively scheduled for April 23-27, with foreign clubs invited to compete alongside the top four local teams in both men\u2019s and women\u2019s categories.<\/p>\n

The Rwanda Cup will also take place, with dates to be announced in due course.<\/p>\n
