Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Nine people who were killed in a lightning strike in Ngoma District will be laid to rest on Tuesday, January 6, The New Times has learnt.<\/p>\n

The farmers, who were struck on Sunday, January 4, while taking shelter from rain in Jarama Sector, will be buried at Sake Cemetery, according to the district.<\/p>\n

Another 12 people were injured or traumatised and have now been discharged from hospitals, Pudence Rubingisa, Governor of Eastern Province.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred on Sunday, January 4, at around 5.30pm, when a group of people cultivating in the Jarama wetland sought shelter from heavy rain in a nearby house used by port guards at Mbuye harbour. The group was struck by lightning, killing nine people, including three women.<\/p>\n

Rubingisa added that Ngoma District authorities are coordinating burial arrangements and will cover all related costs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe burial will take place on Tuesday at 11.30am at Sake Cemetery,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

No damage to infrastructure or property was reported during the lighting incident, according to the governor.<\/p>\n
