Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Hundreds of residents gathered at Nyakarambi trading Centre in Kirehe Sector of Kirehe District to witness the handover of a KIA Sorento to Fred Muyango, a farmer from Musaza Sector, in a draw organised under the TengaPromo incentives to boost Tengamara campaign. The event that took place on January 29, renewed public interest in requesting Electronic Billing Machine (EBM) receipts, a key tool for improving tax compliance and boosting government revenue.<\/p>\n

Muyango emerged as the latest winner after consistently requesting EBM receipts for every purchase. Speaking after receiving the car, he described the campaign as both rewarding and impactful.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am living proof that this campaign works. I never imagined I would win such a prize. My goal was simply to contribute to my country\u2019s development by requesting an EBM receipt for every purchase. I encourage everyone to do the same and register for the TengaPromo\u2014anyone can be a winner. Nation-building is our shared responsibility,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince 2024, more than three million EBM receipts have been registered in our system. We started with about 75,000 participants, and the number continues to grow. Consumers should embrace this campaign and make it a habit to always ask for an EBM receipt after every purchase,\u201d Mutesi noted.<\/p>\n

Kirehe District, where the latest draw took place on January 29, is one of Rwanda\u2019s designated secondary cities expected to play a pivotal role in economic transformation under the National Strategy for Transformation (NST2). Local leaders say wider adoption of EBM has already strengthened revenue collection.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is to double this to Rwf 3.6 billion. As a secondary city driving development under NST2, efficient tax collection through EBM will help fund priority projects, including expanding water access from 80 percent, increasing electricity coverage beyond 75 percent, improving road networks to link farmers to markets, and delivering other key development initiatives. I urge residents to fully embrace EBM and contribute to national development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The TengaPromo encourages consumers to consistently request EBM invoices\u2014whether VAT-inclusive or not\u2014register them, and enter monthly prize draws. Participants earn points for every registered receipt, qualifying them for prize pools of up to Rwf 50 million per month. Weekly cash prize winners are announced on Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA).<\/p>\n

The initiative also includes a VAT Reward scheme, allowing consumers to receive 10 percent of the VAT value on eligible invoices.<\/p>\n

Mutesi emphasised that modern development relies on disciplined systems rather than force.<\/p>\n

\u201cLiberation required guns, but development requires smart planning. The use of EBM is a pillar of that process. It supports accurate revenue collection, enables proper budgeting and planning, and allows every citizen to directly contribute to nation-building,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Previous car winners under the TengaPromo came from Muhanga and Bugesera districts before the latest draw in Kirehe.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, RRA confirmed that a draw for the fourth car will take place on Monday February 2, with the winner set to be revealed during the exercise. Officials noted that while the winner will be announced immediately, the dates for the vehicle handover will be communicated at a later stage.<\/p>\n\r\n
