She made the remarks on Wednesday, April 8, in Washington, D.C., during a high-level roundtable hosted by the Atlantic Council, an organization that promotes U.S. cooperation with allies on global challenges and provides timely insights to policymakers and the public.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, Mukazayire outlined Rwanda\u2019s deliberate efforts to position sport as both an economic and social catalyst. She pointed to continued investments in infrastructure, strategic international partnerships, and the hosting of elite competitions that are steadily elevating the country\u2019s global sporting profile.<\/p>\n

Rwanda has hosted major international events, including the 2025 UCI Road World Championships and the FIFA Series 2026, alongside its flagship annual race, the Tour du Rwanda. These events, combined with initiatives to strengthen domestic leagues and grassroots programmes, are central to building a sustainable sports ecosystem.<\/p>\n

The country has also expanded its global footprint through strategic partnerships, notably through Rwanda Development Board agreements with the LA Clippers and the LA Rams. These deals make Rwanda the first African nation to sponsor teams in both the National Basketball Association and the National Football League, reinforcing the global \u201cVisit Rwanda\u201d brand.<\/p>\n

According to the Sports and Culture Sector Strategic Plan, these initiatives are projected to generate over Rwf30 billion from sports tourism and events by 2029, highlighting sport\u2019s growing contribution to Rwanda\u2019s broader economic development agenda.<\/p>\n
