Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Rwandan finance expert Jean-Bosco Iyacu has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Mojaloop Foundation, a non-profit organisation focused on developing open-source digital payment infrastructure, on April 22.<\/p>\n

He will assume the role on June 1, succeeding Paula Hunter, who is set to retire.<\/p>\n

Until his appointment, he was the Chief Executive Officer of Access to Finance Rwanda (AFR).<\/p>\n

Iyacu currently chairs the Financial Sector Deepening (FSD) Network Council, which coordinates financial sector development initiatives across nine African countries.<\/p>\n

He also serves on the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) FinEquity Technical Advisory Committee, which focuses on financial inclusion issues, including gender considerations.<\/p>\n

His new assignment<\/b><\/p>\n

In his new role, he is expected to oversee the scaling of Mojaloop\u2019s systems across different markets, working with governments, central banks and financial service providers.<\/p>\n

His responsibilities will also include strengthening the organisation\u2019s long-term operational sustainability and supporting the expansion of its deployments globally.<\/p>\n

Iyacu said that inclusive finance remains a major global challenge and opportunity, noting that Mojaloop has demonstrated the potential of interoperable infrastructure in transforming financial systems.<\/p>\n

\u201cI look forward to working with partners to expand access to digital financial services and support the organisation\u2019s long-term direction,\u201d he said in a press statement.<\/p>\n

Mojaloop Foundation Chairperson Kosta Peric said Iyacu\u2019s appointment comes at a time when the organisation is expanding its global work.<\/p>\n

The Mojaloop Foundation, established with support from the Gates Foundation, works on interoperable payment systems designed to enable faster and more accessible digital financial transactions, particularly in markets where a large share of the population remains unbanked or underbanked.<\/p>\n
