Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>The number of Rwandans returning from eastern DR Congo has reached 7,853 since 2025, according to the Ministry of Emergency Management.<\/p>\n

The latest group of 217 people, mostly women and children, crossed on Friday, April 24, through La Corniche One Stop Border Post in Rubavu town.<\/p>\n

Janvier Dushimana, 28, is among the returnees who had been stranded in Kitshanga, Masisi Territory, and is now returning to his home in Rubavu District.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am returning home after many years in Congo,\u201d he said after crossing into Rwanda with his Congolese wife who is pregnant. \u201cI have been living in difficult conditions and was unable to come back to my country due to militias.\u201d<\/p>\n

Authorities in Rubavu District welcomed the returnees, describing their arrival as an important step toward supporting the country\u2019s development.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey will contribute to the continued progress of our country,\u201d stated Deogratias Nzabonimpa, Rubavu District Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Development. He also encouraged the returnees to take their children to school.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are various programs in place to help you improve your livelihoods.”<\/p>\n

The group will be accommodated at the Kijote Transit Center in joining others who have arrived since 2025.<\/p>\n
