There are several activities lined up to mark the week-long period, and poets, through their art, are joining the healing journey.<\/p>\n<p><b>Poets Sam Asiimwe Ruhindi and Joan Ndekezi (right). Net photos<\/b><\/p>\n<p>shares messages from different young poets and the inspiration behind the respective poems.<\/p>\n<p><b>Sam Asiimwe Ruhindi<\/b><\/p>\n<p>He wrote his poem \u2018Ode to motherland\u2019 to send a message to the current generation and the generations to come that what happened in 1994 will never happen again.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u2018Ode to motherland\u2019<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Cloudburst of bullets<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Millions of innocent quenched machetes<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Streams of blood drained our land<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Acrid sent covered heavens<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Vultures and Reynard fed<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>The world turned a blind eye<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>The days were filled with ichor<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>And nights short to the hunted<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>They said love is the way and answer<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>But look how they treated us<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Made us believers and we<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Slew each other furiously<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Brushing aside our brotherhood<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>what was a family became a ruin<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Twenty five years down the road<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>The light glistered again<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>In the land of thousand hills<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>We now remember to keep<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Alive memories of Genocide<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>To teach our selves<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Our children and<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Children after them<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Not to judge each other by<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Their ethnicity, height<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Or shape of nose<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>We remember not to revenge<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>But to learn from our history x2<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>To unite and save our future<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>A thousand candles are lit<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Every year as a sign of peace<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>We want to pass on to<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Our children and generation after them<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>We walk in same rhyme<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>ND\u2019UMUNYARWANDA X3<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>We bind together saying never again<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>To genocide against humanity<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Never and never again<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Eric Ngangare (1key)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>A renowned poet in Rwanda, Ngangare believes such messages through poetry can restore hope not only to the survivors but also the millions of people and families who lost their loved ones.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>His poem \u2018On memory and hope\u2019 reflects on how hard it can be to survive such tragedies, nonetheless encouraging survivors to keep fighting because to him \u2018survival above all is the struggle to stay sane.\u2019<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u2018On memory and hope\u2019<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Suicidal thoughts jam on memory lane<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Survival above all is a struggle to stay sane<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Yet somehow you maintained<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Bet no external consciousness would last a day in your brain<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>The past is non-reversible, and present isn\u2019t always a gift<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>The future unpredictable especially when gazed from a cliff<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>But since the only way is forward, familiarise with haze and mist<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Trust the process; believe in the magic of life<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Have faith in darkness when the stars and the moon don\u2019t shine<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>If you can make it through the night, well, the sun will rise like a prize<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>I wish you find purpose and relief before you get to rest<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>You survived the worst; I hope you live to see the best<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>For what it\u2019s worth, you\u2019re worth it<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Ines Umurerwa Rutayisire<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>She wrote her poem\u2019 Why do I Remember?\u2019 to help the young generation understand why Rwandans and friends of Rwanda remember the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u2018Why Do I Remember?\u2019<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Why do I remember,<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Because they were robbed of their peace<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>And it was replaced with eternal trauma because<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>We were not given a chance to meet our families<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>And now we only meet them in pictures<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>We remember so that their memories live on forever<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>I remember because&#8230;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>This month was supposed to fill happiness in my parent\u2019s lives<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>And now sadness and vulnerability is what they only feel<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>I mourn the cousins, aunts and grandparents<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>I was supposed to be creating memories with<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Ndibuka kubera&#8230;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Ibikomere byasizwe inyuma<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Agahinda abanyarwanda basigaranye<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Imitima imenetse n\u2019inkovu basigaranye<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Abana bato barikuba ari abantu bakomeye ubu<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Ababyeyi barikuba barikumwe nabana babo<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Ababyeyi barikuba barikumwe nababyeyi babo<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>We remember to keep a country strong<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>I remember, you remember and we remember to unite and renew.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Joan Ndekezi<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Through her inspiring piece, Ndekezi highlights the need for Rwandans to stay united now that they found their true identity.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u2018We have risen and still rise\u2019<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Blood Flooded my mother land,<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Amaso yanjye abona mountains, lakes and rivers of my country covered by blankets of pestilence.
