Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Rwanda has confirmed that 35 Heads of Governments will arrive in Kigali to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). They are among the 5000 delegates who will attend the meeting that kicks off on Sunday, June 19.<\/p>\n

In a press briefing held on June 17, the Minister of State in the Ministry of foreign affairs, Prof. Nshuti Manasseh announced that only one country, Nauru, will not participate as it is in the election period<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are as well welcoming several First Ladies for the meeting and also there be special guests attending the meeting. Several clusters have been lined up including the Heads of Government meeting, Youth Forum, Women Forum, People\u2019s Forum, Business Forum and side events,\u201d said Prof Nshuti adding that, all arrangements are in place including, transport, protocols, conferencing, hospitality and social events<\/p>\n

Government Spokesperson, Yolande Makolo went to detail what the Heads of Government will discuss during their closed session.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir decisions will center on a number of things including climate emergence as a result of climate change which is very important because many island nations which are members of the commonwealth just as developing countries are among the highly affected countries.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOther topics to be discussed by the Heads of Government include youth and job creation especially digital affiliated jobs. They will also discuss pandemic recovery and resilience and the impact of geopolitical situation \u2013 with the war in Ukraine and its impact on inflation especially in developing countries,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Preparedness<\/b><\/p>\n

Rwanda has put the health of delegates as a priority, and according to Dr. Tharcisse Mpunga, the State Minister in charge of Primary Healthcare, all delegates attending CHOGM will be subjected to a free COVID-19 test.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have also deployed medical personnel at all hospitals and event venues who are capable of handling any emergency health situation. They will be fully there at all times,\u201d said DRC Mpunga.<\/p>\n

The same applies to the hospitality industry and according to Zephanie Niyonkuru. Deputy CEO at Rwanda Development Board (RDB), all preparations were put in place to ensure effective service to the delegates.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur hospitality industry is very ready and our preparedness is why we scored an 80% growth in the latest GDP report by the national institute of statistics,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\r\n
