Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Rwanda Investigative Bureau (RIB) has warned second hand dealers to be cautious as they purchase second hand items, especially garage operators, to avoid going to courts.<\/p>\n

This was addressed before the media on Friday, June 17, at the Metropolitan Police Headquarters in Remera, Gasabo District, when RIB paraded nine suspects, accused of stealing people\u2019s motorbikes.<\/p>\n

Amongst other stolen items were vehicles and motorbikes, that robbers were said to have dismantled for spare-parts selling.<\/p>\n

According to Thierry Murangira, RIB spokesperson, people should know exactly where to find reliable spare parts.<\/p>\n

\u201cCases of people complaining about their stolen car spare parts are high. People worry if they will find all parts of their car, depending on where they parked. Therefore it is high time we end such crimes in the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The focus is on second hand consumers because, if they don\u2019t buy the spare parts, thieves will not have where to sell them, and the crimes can end, Murangira said, adding that, people should pay much attention as they purchase these second-hand spare parts.<\/p>\n

He sends gratitude to all stakeholders who volunteered to share information about the criminal gang and their assaults, urging the gang to evade such acts and dwell in other \u2018healthy\u2019 occupations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe institution has power and willingness to expose such crimes, assaulters and everyone involved in the case should give get back individuals\u2019 properties,\u201d Murangira said.<\/p>\n

During the parade, he elaborated for the media the tricks used by the criminal gang to trap people\u2019s vehicles such as; where they first observe an individual where they often park their vehicles, for example at restaurants. They disconnect wires of the vehicle to allow them start the engine the other way round and when the engine gets on, they run away with the vehicle.<\/p>\n

They can also push the motorbike slowly, away from the owners\u2019 sight and collect it in a car, together with other stolen motorbikes, where they claim the motorbikes to be taken to garage for reparation.<\/p>\n

Some motorists also betray their colleagues by duplicating the keys of someone else\u2019s motorbike. The thieves make sure to observe where the bike is often parked till one day when they decide to steal it. This is done by especially part-time motorists.<\/p>\n

There are also those who pretend to be buying the vehicle, they request for engine testing. After they are granted the chance, they take off with someone\u2019s vehicle.<\/p>\n

The cubed motorbikes were stolen from Kigali city and they were found in Gasabo, Gatsibo and Gicumbi districts on different days.<\/p>\n

More suspects are yet to be found, according to Murangira, and those convicted of the crime will be sentenced between one to ten years, depending on the case.<\/p>\n

Claimants of the motorbikes should visit the site with documents showing that the properties belong to them.<\/p>\n
