{"id":2040,"date":"2021-09-25T11:53:56","date_gmt":"2021-09-25T11:53:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/rwanda\/all-news\/kwita-izina-2021-rwanda-will-remain-a-safe-inviting-destination-president-kagame"},"modified":"2021-09-25T12:18:25","modified_gmt":"2021-09-25T12:18:25","slug":"kwita-izina-2021-rwanda-will-remain-a-safe-inviting-destination-president-kagame","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/rwanda\/policy\/kwita-izina-2021-rwanda-will-remain-a-safe-inviting-destination-president-kagame","title":{"rendered":"Kwita Izina 2021: Rwanda Will Remain a Safe &amp; Inviting destination- President Kagame"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/rwanda\">Rwanda<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>President Paul Kagame says the government will do all it can to ensure that Rwanda remains a choice of destination for visitors, as the country looks to resuscitate the tourism and hospitality sector, which was adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The Head of State was speaking during the annual Kwita Izina Ceremony, the 17th edition of the gorilla naming ceremony, which was held virtually on Friday, September 14.<\/p>\n<p>President Kagame, hailed the country\u2019s conservation efforts and everyone involved, pointing out that the success of gorilla conservation in Rwanda shows the good that can be achieved through active Community participation and the right partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wish to thank for collaborators, in Rwanda and around the world, for sustaining this excellent work over the years,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Covid-19 pandemic has affected the way we celebrate Kwita Izina, but I\u2019m happy to see so many partners and friends joining us today virtually to continue this tradition,\u201d President Kagame said<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that though there has been a drop in the number of visitors across Rwanda, the important work of conservation did not stop, citing the tourism revenue sharing program as an example.<\/p>\n<p>President Kagame said that the programme, which sees the government invest 10 percent of the tourism revenues in the communities surrounding the parks, continues to finance valuable projects in the society.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Government of Rwanda will continue to invest in the hospitality sector. Both to drive economic growth and preserve our unique natural attractions for generations to come,\u201d President Kagame said, adding that Rwanda will continue to offer remarkable experiences to visitors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are testing and vaccinating as many people as possible to ensure that both Rwandans and visitors stay healthy,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur aim is to ensure that Rwanda remains a safe and inviting destination,\u201d Kagame said.<\/p>\n<p>This year, 24 baby gorillas were named in a virtual ceremony which saw global football stars, artistes, celebrities, diplomats and individuals who have made enormous contributions in their respective societies, christening the new born babies.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during the ceremony, the Acting Chief Tourism Officer (CTO) at Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Ariella Kageruka said though the country\u2019s tourism sector was hard hit by the Covid-19 outbreak, conservation efforts, particularly preserving the health of mountain gorillas, continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no denying the Covid-19 pandemic has significantly impacted Rwanda\u2019s tourism industry. However, the health of the mountain gorillas and the transformation of the communities remain, our top priority,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud that the gorillas are safe and healthy and that we have continued to implement the tourism revenue sharing program, despite the challenges faced,\u201d Kageruka said. She said that the government has put place a number of initiatives to ensure \u201ca robust recovery underpinned by a focus on public health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kageruka that they are also prioritizing new revenue streams that fund conservation and also look to diversify the tourism experiences the country has to offer through new exciting opportunities for investment and innovation by the private sector.<\/p>\n<p>Among the feats celebrated over the past year is the designation of the country\u2019s newest national park, Mukura-Gishwati, as a UNESCO biosphere reserve, in recognition of its mass biodiversity.<\/p>\n<p>She also pointed out that this past year Rwanda expanded the partnership with the African Parks Network (APN) to manage and conserve Nyungwe and Akagera National Parks, with the latter getting restocked with different animal species including lions. Kageruka also pointed out that plans to expand Volcanoes National Park are progressing well, calling on investors to join in.<\/p>\n<p><b>How they named<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Singer Meddy Jobert Ngabo, commonly known as Meddy, introduced the first batch of names, who included Aristide Mugabe, a professional basketball player, who is currently the captain of Patriots Basketball Club.<\/p>\n<p>Mugabe named a baby gorilla from the Igisha family, christening it \u2018Inkomezi\u2019 which means \u2018Inner Strength\u2019, adding that the name was inspired by how people or institutions put their efforts together to solve a problem that affects the people.<\/p>\n<p>Former NBA star, Luol Deng, named a baby gorilla \u2018Rinda\u2019, which means \u2018Preserve\u2019. Rinda is from Agashya family. The two-time NBA All-Star is currently the President of the South Sudan Basketball Federation.<\/p>\n<p>Singer Mr. Eazi named a baby Gorilla \u2018Sangwa, which means welcome. Sangwa is from Kwitonda family. Bruce Melodie named a baby from Kureba family, \u2018Kabeho\u2019 which means \u2018Long live\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The European Union Ambassador to Rwanda, Nicola Bellomo named his baby gorilla \u2018Iratuje\u2019, which means \u2018peaceful\u2019 while Toronto Raptors president, Masai Ujiri, named his \u2018Umusingi\u2019, which means foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Paris Saint Germain first team players Neymar, Kylian Mbapp\u00e9 , Angel di Maria, Marquinhos and Sergio Ramos named baby gorillas from the Isimbi, Muhoza and Musilikale families.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Rwanda.
