Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>The Radisson Blu Hotel and Convention Centre, Kigali has donated Rwf 3.5 million to GAERG, the Alumni of Genocide Survivors\u2019 Students Association, for their \u2018Nyunganira project\u2019 that aims to support Genocide widows around the country.<\/p>\n

The event took place on June 30, in Kinyinya Sector, Gasabo District where the staff of the complex gathered with different members of the association of Genocide widows, Avega-Agahozo who live in the sector.<\/p>\n

According to Rob Kucera, General Manager of the complex, the Radisson Blu Group\u2019s philosophy is responsible business- and that as much as they grow their business within a city, they make sure they also support the community as well as grow it.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why through their management team, they decided to support the Genocide widows as 100 days of remembrance of the Genocide against the Tutsi are still ongoing, a moment he said brings a perfect opportunity for them to be their family and help them move forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwo years of Covid-19 have stopped us from working; it was just survival, but now businesses are coming back, giving us an opportunity to do more within Kigali and also help the community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He noted that the event was a significant one, particularly hearing testimonies from Genocide widows.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou read a lot of information about Genocide, you actually go to Genocide memorials, you hear other people speak about it, but it is natural when somebody is telling a testimony and then touches everybody from that point of view because that\u2019s what they went through. They are the heroes for surviving, and the government has been so progressive in supporting them since 1994. We are just going to help with our part,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Fidele Nsengiyaremye, Executive Director of GAERG thanked the complex for the support, adding that it is for Genocide widows who are in a group named Icyizere in Kinyinya Sector, which usually gathers for group therapy, battling the effects of Genocide, especially mental health-related ones.<\/p>\n

He said that they had discussions and decided to start Nyunganira Project to raise funds to help Genocide widows, who are now old, in order for them to have chicken farms so that they can get occupations, have responsibility and earn money to help them get some basic needs.<\/p>\n

Apart from that, Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre have become a family and will continue to support their activities, Nsengiyaremye added.<\/p>\n

It is expected that the Genocide widows in Kinyinya Sector will get the chickens by December 2022.<\/p>\n

Epiphanie Mukankubito, President of the association of Genocide widows, Avega-Agahozo in Kinyinya Sector which is composed of 54 members, said the chickens will help them earn some money, acquire basic needs and eat eggs that contain nutrients their bodies need.<\/p>\n

She thanked Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre for making them happy and promising to have them tour their complex one day.<\/p>\n\r\n
