Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>The Kung Fu Wushu National Junior Championship will be making its return this month after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

Organized by the Rwanda Kung Fu Wushu Federation, it will be the second edition after the inaugural edition in 2019.<\/p>\n

Officials have revealed to Times Sport that this year’s showpiece, due August 14, will be held in Ngoma district, Eastern Province, in a quest to get the sport closer to people outside the capital.<\/p>\n

The championship will be contested by youth aged between 4 and 15.<\/p>\n

“We expect a lot from this year’s edition, we didn\u2019t hold it for two years because of Covid-19 but now everything is in place for a strong comeback,” Marc Uwiringiye, the federation’s president said.<\/p>\n

He added: “I’m encouraging parents to let their children join us because they’re in holidays. Kung-Fu is a good game for both physical and mental health.”<\/p>\n

Uwiringiye also highlighted that taking the tournament to Ngoma instead of Kigali is a new way of ‘mobilizing and inspiring’ children all over the country to love and play Kung-Fu.<\/p>\n

It is expected that the participants will compete under three age brackets \u2013 from 4 to 7-year-olds, from 8 to 10-year-olds and from 11 to 15-year-olds<\/p>\n

By press time Tuesday, 31 teams had registered to compete. Each team will be represented by 12 players; six boys and six girls.<\/p>\n
