Local basketball powerhouses Rwanda Energy Group (REG) and The Patriots have launched their playoff campaign on a flying note, as each won its first semi-final tie convincingly.<\/p>\n

REG defeated APR 85-47 on Friday evening at Kepler University Court, while The Patriots overcame Tigers Basketball Club 91-45 on the same day at Aiper-Nyandungu Court.<\/p>\n

The playoff semi-finals are being played on a best-of-three basis.<\/p>\n

By the end of this week, all the semi-final games are expected to be completed and then the finals will follow.<\/p>\n

During the REG vs APR game, Cameroonian power forward Beleck Engelbert scored a game-high 19 points as his team dominated the tie.<\/p>\n

American shooting guard Cleveland Thomas Jr, Rwandan power forwards Elie Kaje and Axel Mpoyo also made key contributions in terms of scoring and supplying the ball.<\/p>\n

Kaje and Thomas scored 11 and 22 points respectively.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in the women\u2019s category, the playoffs tipped off on the same day as well.<\/p>\n

Here, REG won their first game against The Hoops 71-47, while APR beat IPRC-Huye 69-56 in the best-of-three semi-finals.<\/p>\n
