Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>The deadline for paying tax on immovable property was extended, for a month, implying that the new deadline is end this January.<\/p>\n

Despite the increase in tax seen in the past years, the Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA), communicated that immovable property tax would not change.<\/p>\n

“Tax on residential buildings has been raised from 0.25 per cent in 2019 gradually to 1 per cent in 2022. The same for commercial building owners. However, the tax will remain the same for the coming years,\u201d Ernest Karasira, the Assistant Commissioner in charge of Provincial and Decentralized Taxes Division at RRA told the media.<\/p>\n

This implies that the person who will pay taxes in 2022 may pay the same as the person who will pay taxes in 2024-2025, he explained.<\/p>\n

The one-month extension was made due to provisions for the 2022 land tax that were announced in December 2022, coinciding with the initial deadline. The move was welcomed by many taxpayers.<\/p>\n

Some applauded the move saying it would make it easier for them to comply. Among the stated obstacles to meeting deadlines were the approaching go-back to school period and the overall end-of-year expenses.<\/p>\n

The RRA also encouraged traders to cross-check EBM receipts with their suppliers or customers. Businesses are warned that falsifying EBM receipts is punishable by law.<\/p>\n
